DOVESDALE INCINERATOR
URGENT NEWS Monday 26th August 2013
SEPA have revoked Scotgens operating licence at Dargavel incinerator.
I have just received an email confirming the good news. It won't be made public for couple of days on SEPA website but this is a major, if not final, nail in the coffin of Scotgens plans in the immediate future at Darngavel (Dumfries) and hopefully Dovesdale. We will need to monitor the coming weeks to establish the full extent of what this means but this action affirms our concerns as to the threat incinerators pose to our communities and the continuing failure of Scotgen to comply with its operating licence. Scotgen have now applied to enter into administration again. The recent fire a few weeks past and explosion at the plant last year are evidence of their continuing failure to protect the environment and the employees at the plant.
Once we can establish the full impact of this decision we will be in touch. Needless to say this justifies the campaign initiated by the community four years ago when we were misled by Scotgen and betrayed by South Lanarkshire Councillors when they approved the planning application at Dovesdale. This shows us what we can do if we have the will and perseverance to campaign against such threats to our communities. We hope this will bring a conclusion to this campaign but not be complacent until we can seek assurances that we have prevented this application going ahead. The Group continues to meet regularly to advance this cause. Thank you for your continued support, we could not have got this far without everyones support.
